About the opportunity:
Thanks to a major contract win, we have an immediate need to build out our award-winning System Engineering Group. Highly regarded for successfully designing and developing large-scale, real-time, state-of-the-art C4ISR systems, we most recently won a highly visible contract FAA contract. An SE Manager is needed to lead this team of proven superstars, and grow the team as needed to fulfill the contract. If you thrive on challenging large scale, real time application system engineering opportunities and have a proven track record of leading by example in the state of the art C4ISR systems space, we want to hear from you.
About the position:
We’re looking for a seasoned Systems Engineer to become the leader of this group – someone who can get their arms around the magnitude of the opportunity, manage the client relationship and expectations on a day to day basis, and operate comfortably in a player / coach capacity. From requirements definition to technical spec development and modeling concepts of operation, to developing a strategic architecture and technical blueprint, and even coding, integration and QA testing. You will have a proven track record of success staying on top of the complex interdependencies involved in similarly large, real time systems engineering and development projects.
You will bring sufficient experience as an SE working on similarly complex programs, e.g. air-traffic control or runway safety systems, to earn -- and sustain -- the respect of your team. You will inherit a team of a half dozen top flight SEs and programmers, and will grow that team to as large as two dozen professionals, depending in part upon your ability to justify and close additional work.
A day in the life of the SE Manager for this contract:
You will spend roughly one third of your time solving technical problems (e.g. design analysis, technical feasibility studies, systems and application testing, hence the need for at least a bachelors degree in engineering as you must be able to perform some of the billable technical tasks on the project. You’ll spend another third of your time in consultative solution selling mode, as the primary interface to the client, and the integral face and representative of that client in negotiating with other entities – both within the FAA and other agencies e.g. NASA. Because of the caliber of the team of self-managing SEs you’ll be leading, the balance of your time will be focused on providing overall strategic direction, coordinating individual efforts, managing potential over-laps or under-laps, pitching in where needed to ensure deadlines are met, etc.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience Requirements:
the successful candidate must
- be a U.S. Citizen (i.e., currently hold or be immediately eligible for a security clearance)
- bring a strong technical background in Real-time System Engineering, including: large scale, C4ISR systems design, requirements analysis and specification); System Performance Engineering, Modeling and Measurement; Enterprise Architecture; Software Architecture, Engineering, Design and Development; large-scale Software Systems Integration and Testing; Software Metrics;
- possess a BSEE (at a minimum) and at least ten years experience, including: experience with most, preferably all, of the following languages, tools, and design disciplines: C, C++, Java, DOORS, Rational Rose, UML, design patterns.
- demonstrate excellent interpersonal effectiveness and communication skills including experience leading other Systems Engineers and interfacing with clients.
- Experience with air traffic control systems and applications is a strong plus.
Target Profile: Candidates who have worked on systems engineering projects for the FAA or NASA will receive first preference; SE Managers who gained their relevant experience with DHS or DOD will also be considered.
Your Value Proposition
If the majority of your experience has been spent with a large multi-billion defense contractor, you will enjoy unparalleled latitude and the satisfaction of managing a major program from beginning to end. Other team leads who have joined our ranks cite the "cradle to grave" responsibilities and their unhindered ability to manage the full scope of a project as one of the most satisfying aspects of working here. Target compensation package includes a six figure base salary, performance-driven bonus opportunity and comprehensive benefits package. Actual compensation package will be tailored to the needs of the successful candidate, depending on 1) your relevant experience, 2) current / most recent compensation history, and 3) performance once on board.
